Key Stats: RHP Germán Márquez 4 IP, H, BB, 2 K; RHP Alek Jacob (S, 3) 1.2 IP, H, 3 K; RF Nick Solak, 3-for-5, HR (9), 3 RBI; 1B Marcos Castañon, 2-for-5, R; C Blake Hunt, 0-for-2, RBI, BB; DH Will Wagner, 2-for-5, 2B, R

Prospect Watch: Germán Márquez toed the rubber for the second time on his rehab assignment and worked four scoreless innings, allowing just one hit with two punchouts. His four-seamer didn’t generate a whiff, but sat at 95.4 mph, 1.1 mph higher than his 2026 season average. The veteran’s only two whiffs among 47 pitches came courtesy of his knuckle-curve. While Marquez didn’t allow a run, he was hit hard. Of the nine balls put into play against him, six logged exit velocities north of 95 mph. The average EV for the day against Marquez was 97.9 mph. … Alek Jacob gave up one hit as he worked 1.2 innings without allowing a run. Because he came on with a runner on before El Paso tacked on three late runs, he picked up his third save of the season. Jacob leaned heavily on his changeup, throwing it 12 times among 24 total offerings. The pitch generated around 19 inches of horizontal break and drew a 57% whiff rate as Jakob used it for all three of his punch outs. … Marcos Castañon logged a multi-hit day, going 2-for-5 with a pair of singles and a run scored out of the cleanup spot. Both base knocks tallied exit velocities north of 100 mph, with his single in the fourth logging a season-high 111.6 off the bat. While he has fared well against righties, most of Castañon’s damage numbers have come against southpaws, against whom he owns a 1.083 OPS and five homers. … Nick Solak went 3-for-5 and launched his ninth homer of the year. His long ball came in the bottom of the eighth, leaving his bat at 97.1 mph. This season, he’s hitting .344 with a .957 OPS against PCL pitching while punching out at just an 11% clip. He boasts an impressive 91.4% in-zone contact rate, but his batted-ball data is below average. He has tallied only a 4.9% barrel rate and a 38.4% hard-hit rate.

Missions 7,  Wichita Wind Surge 4

Key Stats: RGP Francis Peña IP, K; RP Josh Mallitz (S, 2) 2 IP, H, 4 K; RF Braedon Karpathios 2-for-4, R, BB; C Ethan Salas 2-for-5, RBI, 2 R; SB (12); 2B Carson Tucker 2-for-5, R; 1B Romeo Sanabria 1-for-5, 2 K

Prospect Watch: After slogging through a terrible month of April, Braedon Karpathios has been the most productive hitter in the Missions lineup for over a month. On Sunday the 22-year-old outfielder reached base three times with a pair of singles and a walk. Since May 1, Karpathios is hitting .317 with a .920 OPS and 159 wRC+- while producing some of the most impressive exit velocities in the Padres system. In this same stretch, the Pennsylvania native also walked 27 times, good for a 20.6% walk rate, while chasing at only 22.8% clip. … Ethan Salas logged a multi-hit game, going 2-for-5 with a pair of singles and swiped his 12th bag of the season. Salas has slowed down just a bit over the last two series, hitting .268 with just three extra base hits and a .688 OPS. He has put the ball on the ground a bit more frequently during this stretch, but even during this small “slump,” Salas has drawn three walks while striking out only twice. … Like Karpathios, Missions first basemen Romeo Sanabria also enjoyed a bounced-back May. After going 1-for-5 in Sunday’s win, the 23-year-old is hitting .292 with an .842 OPS since the start of May. He claims an 82.4% in-zone contact rate and has clubbed four of his five homer in that stretch. … Josh Mallitz had his most impressive outing of the season, working two scoreless innings, allowing one hit against four strikeouts. The right-hander punched out the side in the ninth to secure his second save of the year. For the afternoon, he induced eight whiffs on 15 swings, good for a 53.3% rate. While his season numbers remain skewed by ugly results in his first two appearances of the year, Mallitz has allowed just two earned runs and posted a sub-1.00 WHIP over his last 15 innings. … Francis Peña also turned in another strong outing out of the pen, working a scoreless seventh inning with one strikeout. The performance lowered his ERA on the year to a 1.93. While he didn’t record any Sunday, he owns a strikeout rate north of 34% over his past 14.1 innings.

Lake County Captains 3, TinCaps 2

Key Stats: LHP Jamie Hitt (L, 1-2) 4 IP, 3 R (1 ER), 3 H, 2 BB, 4 K; LHP Javier Chacon 2 IP, H, 3 K, BB; RHP Tucker Musgrove IP, 2 K; DH Jake Cunningham 1-for-2, HR (14), 2 BB; LF Alex McCoy 0-for-2, RBI, BB, SF; SS Justin DeCriscio 1-for-4; Kavares Tears 0-for-4, 3 K

Prospect Watch: Jake Cunningham wasted little time getting the TinCaps on the board, smashing his organization-leading 14th homer of the year, and fourth of the series. Cunningham has been one of the hottest hitters in the system for some time now, boasting a 1.178, 144 wRC+, and eight long balls since May 1. Swing-and-miss is still a big concern in the former 5th-round pick’s game, who is still posting a brutal 35.9% whiff rate during this hot stretch. However, there is no denying the toolsy outfielder – who hit just seven homers in his prior two seasons in the Baltimore system – seems to have flipped a switch in his new organization. … Jamie Hitt was the tough-luck loser as a pair of throwing errors in the first inning gave the Captains a pair of unearned runs. That was more than his offense could cover as Fort Wayne dropped their fifth in a row and eighth in their last 10. Hitt only gave up one earned run over four innings, but labored through 87 pitches. The bullpen had a rare strong game behind him, tossing five innings of scoreless relief. Tucker Musgrove flummoxed Lake County hitters in the ninth, striking out two of the three batters he faced with his fastball topping out at 99 mph. Over his last 10.1 innings, the right-hander has a 1.69 ERA and an absurd 47% strikeout rate. His command has also been much improved in that time, walking just 9.8% of batters. … Alex McCoy logged a sacrifice fly for the second straight game and worked a walk in the bottom of the fourth, but went 0-for-2 to close the book on another rough week at the dish. Over the past two weeks, McCoy is hitting just .158 and has struck out 36.8% of the time. Teams are regularly throwing breaking balls out of the zone, taking advantage of the big man’s 40% chase rate and 36.5% whiff rate rate since May 25. He’ll look to get back on track in Dayton, who also saw him earlier in the season when he was crushing fastballs in the zone. McCoy will need to make adjustments now that clubs have a book on him.

Storm 7, Fresno Grizzlies 5 (11 innings)

Key Stats: RHP Carlos Medina 4.1 IP, 2 ER, 5 H, BB, 3 K; RHP Sean Barnett IP, BB, 2 K; CF Ryan Wideman 1-for-3, HR (5), SB (38), HBP, RBI, 2 R; 1B-RF Kerrington Cross 1-for-4, 2 BB, RBI, 2 SB (11); C Truitt Madonna 1-for-5, 2B, R, 2 K; DH Luke Cantwell 2-for-5, 2B, RBI

Prospect Watch: The Storm needed 11 innings and almost four hours, but claimed victory on get-away day in the Central Valley and return home with the best winning percentage in the Cal League. Ryan Wideman capped a strong week in Fresno with a 1-for-3 afternoon headlined by his fifth homer of the year. It’s just his third homer in his past 31 game, but Wideman is still hitting .323 with an .873 OPS in that span. He has managed to keep his strikeout rate in check, but the 22-year-old has worked just five free passes in his last 138 plate appearances. Wideman took a pitch off his left hand in the seventh inning. While he stayed in the game and stole his 37th base to move into sole possession of the minor league lead on the very next pitch, he was removed when his spot came up again in the top of the ninth inning. … While he came through with a two-run single, Jorge Quintana‘s power outage persisted Sunday. The 19-year-old shortstop has just one long ball this season, and only six extra-base hits over the past month-plus. Quintana has continued to hit the ball hard, but seldom in the air, as he’s posted a 53.9% ground ball rate. Quintana has also struggled to limit the swing and miss, punching out 37 times in his past 103 trips to the plate. … Kerrington Cross continued to wear out Cal League pitchers, reaching base three times Sunday thanks to a pair of walks on a 1-for-4 day at the plate. Since May 1, the University of Cincinnati alum owns a 1.156 OPS and has connected on seven home runs. At 24 years old, he has little to prove at Single-A level and should be headed toward the Summit City sooner rather than later. … First baseman Luke Cantwell came off a three-week stint on the IL, and picked up where he’d left off with a 2-for-5 night with a double. The Padres’ 20th-round pick out of Pitt last summer, Cantwell sports a .936 OPS from the left side on the year. … Sean Barnett entered a 4-4 tie in the eighth inning and delivered a clean inning of relief. The right-hander struck out two while issuing one walk, drawing a 40% whiff rate. Dating back to May 14, Barnett has allowed only one earned run over 10.1 innings while striking out 14. He is far from a finished product, but the right-hander has made notable strides. His fastball continues to sit in the upper-90s with ride, and his slider flashes a good two-plane tilt.
